Fifty years ago today, John Glenn became the first American to orbit the earth. Hats off one of the most admirable living patriots. 

Glenn is also the oldest person ever to fly into space after flying aboard on Discovery STS-95. He is the only man to have flown in both the Mercury program and the Shuttle program.
